Daybreak

beneath a soft fajr sky
cool air wraps around a
tightened noose,

inside the hush of prison gates
another extinguishing.

past bleeds into present—
a snake swallowing its own tail.

generations who poured dirt
on their heads with
bare hands.

generations who clear soot
from fresh gravestones.

a curse blows
with the western wind.

the unspeakable explodes.
the unseeable hangs.

dirt on my head and yours—

who dares to tell the whole truth?
